Dr. Safar Ali Akanda

Safar Ali Akanda was a Professor at Rajshahi University for over four decades from 1953-1997. During this time, he also held a post as a Director at the Institute of Bangladesh Studies (IBS) of Rajshahi University. Dr. Akanda earned a MA and a PhD from the University of Denver, Colorado, in 1965 and 1970, respectively. In 1966, he was elected president of the Pakistan Student Association of USA. He has also served as a Lecturer at Kalamazoo College in Michigan 1966-67, and at Dhaka University from 1954-55. Dr. Akanda - born in Mohanganj - has been active in numerous social activities, and is a freedom fighter.
